Alleged underworld crime boss Nafiz Modack might not be charged for his alleged involvement in the murder of Anti Gang Unit Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Charl Kinnear. Kinnear was assassinated in September 2020, while sitting in his car in front of his Bishop Lavis house.
Modack along with three other men between the ages 29 and 49 were arrested in Century View on Thursday, April 29 during a high-speed chase where illegal firearms were confiscated from inside their vehicles. As reported by IOL, the Hawks issued a new statement on Friday, April 30, which indicated that Kinnear’s name has been removed and only referenced the arrest in connection with the attempted murder of Advocate William Booth.
The latest information on the investigation comes after the Hawks retracted a statement that was released on Thursday night that revealed four people were arrested and included a quote from Police Minister Bheki Cele linking the breakthrough to the case, EWN reported.
The alleged suspects are expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday, May 3 on charges relating to the attempted murder of an advocate as well as conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, extortion and kidnapping.
Meanwhile, Modack is no stranger to the court. Last year, he and three co-accused were acquitted of extorting Grand Africa Cafe & Beach in Cape Town.
