Robbemond’s parents had returned from N1 City shopping mall with a large amount of cash. According to the Daily Voice, SAPS believes that the robbers followed them from the mall.
When the suspects and Robbemond’s parents were driving near Monte Vista Primary, the robbery unfolded.
The New Zealand Herald reports that during the incident, Robbemond smashed the back-window of the perpetrators’ car with a sledgehammer, before he was shot and the suspects fled the scene.
According to SAPS spokesperson Malcolm Pojie, the police have reason to believe that the motive was a bank-following-robbery.
Additionally, police said they have managed to track down the white Toyota Corolla the suspects used in the robbery in a parking lot in Parow.
Pojie told Cape {town} Etc that the incident is still under investigation and that no arrests have been made yet.
‘We make an appeal to anyone with any information about this incident to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MYSAPS application to share information anonymously,’ said Pojie.
