More police officials have been deployed to crime hotspots in the Western Cape amid an increase of gang related violence.

“Red Zone” areas include Delft, Khayelitsha, Kraaifontein, Nyanga Harare, and Phillipi East.

According to an SABC News report, police minister Bheki Cele is inspecting a parade of nearly two hundred members who will serve as force multipliers within the existing crime fighting operations in the province.

This deployment comes after the “men in blue” came under serious attack that claimed the lives of three police officers in the province.

Sergeant Mnakwazo Mdoko and his partner, Constable Mninawa Breakfast were murdered in Kraaifontein late last month, March 2021.

EWN reported that the pair were reportedly driving in the Bloekombos area when they were ambushed during the early hours of Sunday.

In a separate incident, a 40-year-old police Constable was shot dead in Delft South on Friday, 19 March.

The off-duty cop was stationed at Mowbray SAPS department.
