Many employment sectors have had a hard year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and many companies have shifted to having their employees work from home, while other industries have near crumbled. The latest index from jobs portal CareerJunction shows the country’s hiring activity.
The CareerJunction Index (CJI) shows online labour dynamics in South Africa by providing a detailed analysis of the relative ratio of supply and demand in the online job market. An index score below 100 indicates that there are fewer job opportunities and more job seekers, making it a highly competitive environment for those looking for work.
There has been an increase in hiring activity in the fields of ICT, sales, architecture and engineering, marketing, business and management, and warehousing and logistics.
Software developers remain the most highly sought after in the local job market. More than 1000 vacancies were allocated to software developers during the month of November. During level 5 of lockdown, there was a dip in the hiring activity of middle and department managers, but this is making a strong recovery. Demand for managerial skills has doubled since May.
The hiring of sales representatives is also growing significantly, as hiring activity has increased by 44% over the past three months.
