The mother of the three-year-old, who died in a shack fire in the Siqalo informal settlement near Mitchells Plain on Friday, April 30 is seeking assistance to help bury the young boy. Alunamda Mili, allegedly died when a fire ripped through the family’s informal structure.

According to IOL, the boy’s mother, Bulelwa, indicated that said she left home to go look for employment and left Alunamda with her boyfriend who had spent the night with them. It is alleged that her boyfriend forgot to put the candle out.

As reported by GroundUp, Community leader Ndimphiwe said they noticed the fire around 7 am. Diza said they rushed to try and extinguish the fire with water but had no luck. “We suspected that children might be inside … We all know her situation that she survives by asking for old clothes at Westgate to sell.”

Meanwhile, City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said two informal structures and a vehicle were damaged in the blaze.
