With heavy rainfall affecting Cape Town this morning, reports of flooding on Main Road and Dorris Drive in Simon’s Town have prompted rescue teams to attend to the scene as a vehicle was trapped in high waters.
Cape Medical Response Group, an emergency medical response service in the South Peninsula, reported on the incident, saying, “With a substantial amount of rain this morning and forecasted to continue on and off through the evening commute, the roads are very wet! Many areas are experiencing flooding and debris has been washed on the roads.”
Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service was also present on the main road near the Simon’s Town Country Club, attempting to alleviate the flooding after a car had gotten stuck in the water.
1Second, a social media page dedicated to raising awareness for road users, shared an image of the vehicle driver trapped on the flooded road.

Reports state that the the N2 on Caledon side has been closed due to flooding and there is bumper-to-bumper traffic both ways.

Motorists are cautioned to drive carefully under the current weather conditions.
“We’re encouraging everyone to drive with extra caution today or avoid being on the roads if possible.”
The emergency medical response unit said multiple accidents have been reported on the roads today.
Storm Report SA has shared footage of Riviersonderend, a village in the Overberg region of Western Cape, being flooded due to heavy rains, which can be seen in the video below.
Riviersonderend reportedly received more than 100mm of rain.
