Protesters from all over South Africa, UK and Australia will take to the streets on Saturday, September 5 as part of the ‘Move One Million’ march.
In Cape Town, the peaceful protest will take place at the Grand Parade on Saturday, and begins at 9am. It will also be held in other parts of the country, people interested in joining can find more information here.
The movement aims to get one million people to take hands in peaceful protest across the country and abroad. Over 18 000 people like the movement on Facebook, and over 2 300 plan to attend the event.
The ‘Move One Million‘ movement was created by the same person behind South Africa’s #ImStaying group, Jarette Petzer. He was inspired to create the group to encourage fellow South Africans to rise up against corruption.
The movement has gained traction and created Move One Million groups all across the globe, from the UK to Australia. Citizens from Canada, Papua New Guinea and Brazil have shown their support on the group’s Facebook page.
“We are in a battle for the heart and soul of South Africa. We cannot allow ourselves to be paralysed by fear for one more minute. Yes, we are banged up and yes, we have been beaten down, but we are not broken. It is up to every single one of us to rise up against the people bent on trying to destroy our great nation,” reads the movement’s About page.
“The time is now for us to unite from all corners of the globe and show solidarity against a bent and corrupt system that can no longer be allowed to have its way with the future of our people and the future leaders that follow. We are now left with only two options – Either we run and cower, or make a stand, together, as sons and daughters of South Africa!”
Ahead of the march, people in the country and beyond are showing also their support via social media.
