South Africa is officially in the clutches of the third wave. As Covid-19 cases continue to soar, especially in the province of Gauteng, Hospital group Netcare has significantly increased its Covid-19 bed capacity to ensure that patients receive the necessary care, reports News24.
On Friday, the group announced that it was ramping up its efforts by increasing oxygen supply and bringing in more medical assistance amidst the latest surge.
“We have substantially increased our Covid-19 bed capacity, contracted more resident medical officers and clinical associates and made every effort to ensure that we have adequate supplies of oxygen, the appropriate medication, as well as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to last us through this surge,” Netcare CEO Dr Richard Friedland said.
The group has also implemented strict infection and control policies, which are aligned with the guidelines provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the National Department of Health (NDoH).
“Our interventions are at all times aimed at doing the very best we can for all patients seeking care at any of our hospitals or clinics, while ensuring the safety of our frontline staff, doctors, nurses, paramedics and other healthcare workers,” he stated.
Gauteng has been hit the hardest, as revealed by the latest statistics from the National Department of Health on Thursday. The province currently has the most cases in South Africa, with approximately 74 588 active cases, reports IOL.
To help ease the burden on the emergency department in various Gauteng hospitals, Netcare has authorised Clinical Decision Units as part of its disaster management planning.
