The Newlands Spring became a popular water source during the height of Day Zero, and while Cape Town now has water, many still make their way to the spring to collect drinking water. The City recently announced that the spring will be temporarily closed for repairs and maintenance.

The collection point will be closed-off from February 3 to 14, 2020 and is expected to be open to the public again from 5am on Saturday, February 15, 2020.

As an alternative, the Bradwell Spring, which is located on the corner of Upper Buitenkant and Ludlow Streets in Vredehoek may also be accessed. This facility is open seven days a week, from 5am until 11pm, and security has been provided on site.

“The City regrets any inconvenience to the users of the Newlands Spring facility, and thanks residents for their patience,” it said.
