We’ve been waiting for it for months and, when it finally arrived, it was spectacular. What are we on about? The Cape Town Carnival, of course.
Thousands of spectators watched in awe as the parade made its way down the Green Point Fan Walk in a flourish of music, dance and costumes. This year’s theme ‘AMAZA – Ocean Odyssey’ was a celebration of the oceans surrounding the city and, according to Cape Town Carnival Creative Director Brad Baard, could not have come at a more opportune time. ‘With Cape Town in the middle of a serious drought, this year’s water-related theme comes at the perfect time to create awareness in a fun and colourful way,’ he said.
Around 50 diverse community groups participated in this year’s event, which started with the parade at 7 pm and continued through the night with a fabulous street party and local DJs Fresh and Euphonik entertaining the crowds.
