The Sanlam Top Destination Awards celebrates its third year in 2017 and plans to expand with additional entries, more guests at their awards ceremony and further sponsorship opportunities. The theme for this year is ‘Authentically African #MyHeartBeatsAfrica’.
Accommodation establishments are welcome to enter in one of nine categories for consideration: hotel, game lodge, lodge, country house, guest house, bed and breakfast, self-catering, backpacker and caravans/camping. Entries have been open from 1 February and voting begins on 1 March 2017. Voting is open to the public and selected establishments are encouraged to get their guests to vote. These votes are then tallied and the top establishments are judged according to an internal set of criteria.
The awards have been designed by Discount Traveler to uplift the hospitality industry in South Africa by acknowledging top accommodation establishments as key industry players. Managing Director of Discount Traveler, Jonathan Pepler says:
‘We strive to uplift those local family businesses that have put blood, sweat and tears into their establishments, and to show people the utmost dedication that goes into running a guesthouse or B&B. We also want to show recognition to the four and five-star hotels that are doing everything right in terms of service offerings.’
Nominees are named and winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on Thursday 14 September 2017, which will be held at the Cape Town City Hall.
