We’re well aware that Cape Town is a tourist hub, especially around December but did you know that 15% of tourists to the Mother City are German, the second largest tourist group after the UK? Neither did we. But German airline carrier Lufthansa sure did. So much so that today marked the official launch of the new direct year-round Lufthansa flight between Frankfurt and Cape Town with an inaugural flight leaving the german finance capital and carrier’s main hub at 10.10 pm to arrive in the Mother City at 9.30 am tomorrow, 3 December.
Dr Andre Schulz, Lufthansa’s General Manager for South Africa, says the company doesn’t see Cape Town’s popularity as just a trend but as a long-term investment that makes good business sense for not only the brand but the city itself. With the addition of this new route, which will be served thrice a week in its first year of service and then five times a week from October 2017, the carrier will have up to 24 flights in operation in South Africa. South Africans will now also have the opportunity to enjoy Lufthansa’s Premium Economy Class seats that offer more luggage, extra leg room and great value for money.
The company is so invested in the city of Cape Town that they have established a pre-school in Capricorn as part of their corporate social investment strategy, which they hope to extend to a primary school, along with many other initiatives.
Here’s to a long and prosperous partnership!

Wow! Yes! Did you hear Emirates is starting Dubai-FLL!!!?
Check this out Nina!
I read it the other day, thanks. I wonder what’s new though as LH has flown directly from FRA every day during SA summer for years not sure about winter. By now the flights are so expensive though starting at 1200 return that’s it’s no option for me when I can have a flight starting at 600 with one stop… I flew directly in 2007 but back then it wasn’t so expensive yet.
