Eskom has announced that despite a constrained and vulnerable system, no load shedding is expected for Monday, January 6, 2020. According to the power utility company, the sufficient water at the pumped storage scheme has assisted in conserving diesel at their open cycle gas turbines.
This has helped conserve diesel and will continue to do so in the coming days. These emergency reserves will aid in supplementing a shortage of capacity if needed.
Eskom has, however, reminded residents that the system is still vulnerable and there is still a possibility of load shedding returning.
Technical teams are currently monitoring the situation and carrying out maintenance to reduce unplanned breakdowns. Unplanned breakdowns have caused the loss of 13 119MW of electricity as on Monday, January 6, 2020.
We will keep residents in the loop about developments here.
