Breathe out a sigh of relief and blow out those candles, it seems we won’t need them today. Eskom has announced that no load shedding will be implemented on Thursday [February 11] as generation capacity has sufficiently recovered.
This comes after Stage 3 load shedding was implemented from 1pm on Wednesday [February 1o] until 6am on Thursday morning.
“Over the past 24 hours, Eskom teams successfully returned four generation units to service, helping ease the capacity contracts sufficiently to enable us to not require load shedding. Another five units are expected to return to service during the next two days. The load shedding of the past two days has also enabled Eskom to adequately replenish the emergency generation reserves,” reads a statement from the embattled power utility.
“Eskom continues to implement reliability maintenance during this period, and as such the system will continue to be constrained, with the risk of load shedding remaining elevated. We currently has 4928MW of capacity on planned maintenance, while another 13 217MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdown.”

Eskom appeals to the public to continue to use electricity sparingly as the system remains vulnerable and unpredictable.
