It’s been a good day for motorists in Cape Town today, the price of petrol decreased by 30c and now you don’t have to stand in long queues at the licensing department anymore. The first ticket queuing system in the motor vehicle renewal and licensing section was implemented at the Civic Centre on Wednesday.
The City of Cape Town officially launched the new ticketing system which operates similarly to queuing systems at other service providers like banks.
When you arrive, you will be given a ticket with a number, you can then relax at the coffee shop outside on the Concourse Level and wait for your number to be announced on the display board. When your number is called, you proceed to the offices.
To further assist frustrated customers, an SMS service is also being planned for those who would like to receive an SMS advising them of their turn, and will give them the option to enter their cellphone number on the terminal that issues the ticket number to make use of this facility, the City said.
Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, Councillor Johann van der Merwe said this initiative is a step in the right direction to improve customers experience at the licensing facility. “This is one of many steps we have taken over the last years to improve efficiency and turnaround time, including making credit card payments possible.
“While we are confident that this new system will help to ease the long queues, some teething problems could be expected. If this is the case, we ask our customers for their patience and understanding. My only request is that customers also watch the display boards for their number so as not to cause undue delays to others who are awaiting their turn,” he said.
The City added that this is the first such system to be implemented and depending on available budget, this will be rolled out to other MVR offices in the city.
