The National Council of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) received a generous donation of R488 000 from MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet, one of South Africa’s biggest community loyalty programmes.

The donation will be used to fund inspector and field officer training going forward, according to the Good Things Guy. The inspector and field officers are on the front line for the NSPCA, as it is their job to investigate cases of animal abuse, rescuing animals in need, and ensuring the relevant prosecution processes are followed for those who are convicted.

Reports of animal abuse, neglect, and negligence have increased significantly over the last 12 months, as the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting nationwide lockdowns meant people either abandoned their pets or simply neglected to take care of them, which in turn added to the overall workload of the NSPCA and its field officers.

Thanks to the donation by MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet, the NSPCA will now be able to increase its workforce.

“Our programme is proof that every single person can make a big difference. Over a million people are swiping their MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet cards every month, and the impact of each small gesture is massive. Thanks to the support of cardholders, we can assist organisations such as the NSPCA to continue doing their valuable community work,” said Pieter Twine, General Manager of MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet, as reported by Good Things Guy.
