An off-duty policeman was shot and killed near a construction site in Khayelitsha on Monday, June 14.  It is alleged that the officer and three accomplices were loading bricks onto a vehicle when the incident occurred.

As reported by EWN, Harare police were patrolling in the area when they encountered four alleged suspects who immediately fled the scene, but with the help of security guards police managed to apprehend two of them.

However, when police were busy loading the two suspects they came under fire and an exchange of gunshots followed. The off-duty officer was wounded where he died later in hospital.

Police also found a generator, which was reported stolen during a business robbery as well as the firearm used by the off-duty officer to fire shots at the police which was a service pistol registered in his name.
