As the months pass during this winter season, it is becoming colder and colder. Heavy rainfall and even some snowfall are expected in some areas, and there are families out there who need our help to stay warm.
Every year, families across the country purchase items such as blankets, shoes and warm clothes that may cost an arm and a leg for some, and for others, a lay-by is the only way they can afford these things.
According to Jaap Hamman, Chief Executive Officer at PEP, “Many customers find themselves stretched financially, and lay-bys offer some financial relief. It only requires a small deposit and can be cancelled at any time without penalties.”
PEP has launched a Lay-by Buddy campaign, that was inspired by a hero who a few years ago, settled several random lay-by accounts for those who could not afford to do so.
A year later, the fund received R1 million contributions from over 5700 individuals. These contributions have seen over 26 00 lay-by customers settle their lay-by accounts, enabling them to get more warm clothes and other necessities needed much more sooner.
PEP has promised to pay off one lay-by account in every one of their 2150+ SA stores up to a total value of R250 000. PEP pleads to the public to help in any small contribution with an aim to raise R600 000.
“For as little as the same cost as a cup of coffee, these funds will help to settle around 4,800 customer lay-by accounts,” says Jaap.
