The month of May started with some good news for the motorist, as the price of petrol is set to decrease this month. The energy department announced on Saturday, May 1, that as of midnight on Tuesday, May 4, petrol will decrease by nine cents per litre, while diesel will go down by 31 cents per litre.
Meanwhile, paraffin will decrease by 23 cents per litre and LP gas will decrease by R1.72 per kilogram. This will be a relief for many following the excessive price hikes in April. Petrol prices have made a turnaround from last month, with across-the-board price reductions in all fuel types expected when the department of mineral resources & energy announces adjustments for May, Business Day reported.

According to EWN, Automobile Association spokesperson Layton Beared said they hoped there would be more price relief to fuel prices for users over the coming months. Beared indicated that the exchange rate has continued to strengthen against the US dollar and international petroleum prices, which increased slightly in the first two weeks of April.
