After a costly festive season, locals can rejoice at the news that the petrol price will decrease in January 2020, by as much as 14 cents per litre. The price of diesel, however, will go up.

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced yesterday, December 28, that the price of petrol (both 93 ULP and LRP) is expected to decrease 4 cents per litre, while both 95 ULP and LRP will decrease by 14 cents per litre on January 1, 2020.

Illuminating paraffin is also shifting in price, with an extra 5 cents per litre.

Diesel will become more costly in the new year. The price of Diesel (both 0.05% sulphur and 0.005% sulphur) will increase by 9 cents per litre.

According to the Department of Energy, the prices have changed due to the average Brent Crude oil price per barrel increasing as well as the Rand appreciating against the Dollar.
