A young Cape grysbok was successfully rescued from the flames that engulfed the Overstrand Region, destroying the homes of locals and the natural fauna and flora of the area.

The Winelands Fire Services found the injured baby animal in the mountains while tackling the blaze. After carrying the buck down the mountain, ER24 Paramedics were able to asses the animal who was aptly named ‘Bambi’.

The paramedic team found that Bambi had a low body temperature and had sustained serious burns to its small hooves and face.

“We’re hugely grateful to our amazing vets, Dr Rosali Bruggemann, her fiancé Dr Tiaan Visser and Dr Adri Rossouw for their tremendous efforts in trying to save this precious young grysbok.”

The animal clinic administered further painkillers and fluids and treating the burned hooves of the animal. All the efforts of those involved are acknowledged in saving this tiny creature from the flames.
