A Pinetown woman has a case of crimen injuria opened against her after it was revealed she had allegedly referred to President Cyril Ramaphosa as an “ape trying to act like a first-world president”.

As reported by TimesLIVE, it is believed that a man from Bluff took offence to a social media post by the woman, which was posted in the evening of Tuesday, April 22. He immediately reported her to the Brighton Beach Police Station.

In the social media post, the Pinetown woman said the current national lockdown and spread of the coronavirus pandemic in South Africa is government’s fault.

“On the 23rd of April, I went up to my nearest police station in Brighton Beach to lodge a complaint and open a case against a lady that sent a Facebook page suggesting that the President is an ape pretending to act like a president of a first-world country. I did find the post distasteful and I did [not] hesitate to open up a case,” the man said during an interview under the condition of anonymity.

“The case was registered at Brighton Beach police station at about 8pm on Tuesday,” said Police spokesperson Vish Naidoo.
