Southern Coast police have tracked down and arrested the suspect in the murder investigation of 22-year-old librarian, Clodine Nuys. She was found brutally trussed and bound behind a créche in the Groot Brak River area on the evening of Tuesday, February 11.

Nuys had left for her job at the Jonkersberg Library at approximately 7am, and her family grew suspicious when she did not return home at her usual time in the afternoon. According to South Coast police spokesperson Malcom Pojie, members of a search party had stumbled upon her lifeless body  behind the local créche. Here, her hands and feet were discovered to be tied with tape. A cable tie was also found around her neck.

Her cellphone and keys to the Jonkersberg library were missing.

Investigators found clues after combing the crime scene that led them to a house in the same village. When they approached the potential suspect, he fled into the dense forest of the surrounding area and disappeared on the evening of Wednesday, February 12.

Police have tracked the suspect down after a massive manhunt. The 24-year-old was found still hiding in the dense forest of Jonkersberg. The man, whose identity has not yet been revealed, will be detained at the Groot Brak River police station until he appears in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court on Monday, February 17.

Police are still working to find out what the motive of the crime was, and how Nuys died exactly.

Nuys had been an employee of the library for the past three years and is well known in the community.
