Police have reopened a missing case of Mitchells Plain mother who vanished 21 years ago. On October 1 2000, 20-year-old Rashanda Smith who worked for Woolworths in Adderley Street, Cape Town at the time was accompanied by her boyfriend to the local taxi stop along Alpine Road. She never arrived at her destination.
Her body has never been found and police confirmed that her murder docket changed to a missing person’s case, IOL reports. Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed a murder case was now opened. “Be advised that the Mitchells Plain case that was reported in 2000, there are no leads, the person was never found, a case of murder was opened for investigation with no new developments,” Rwexana said.
However, it is alleged with the new evidence obtained last year, such as statements from witnesses who kept their silence for two decades including blood samples found inside the Beacon Valley house of her boyfriend at the time, were used to finally secure a murder investigation. Meanwhile, Smith’s son Camden, who was raised by her parents as their own is now 23, and studying law and also has a degree in theology.
