There have been great concerns regarding the inefficiencies at the Port of Cape Town as it became a risk for agricultural exports.
Provincial Minister for Agriculture, Ivan Meyer recently met with the Citrus Growers Association (CGA) regarding the state of the Port which puts the import and export of goods in a bad light, News 24 reports.
According to Meyer, the Port of Cape Town plays a vital role in the province’s economy. He indicated the shortage of equipment and obsolete equipment restricts the ports authorities to manage the terminal effectively.
Meanwhile, The Department of Economic Development and Tourism, led by the Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities, David Maynier, has urgently called on President Ramaphosa to visit the Port of Cape Town, stating that improving port efficiency will ultimately require an intervention by the national government, AllAfrica reported.
Maynier added that they have also established a Port Task Team which has brought together stakeholders from across the port logistics to find solutions to their problems. He will also raise these concerns to the Western Cape Standing Committee for Finance and Economic Development and Tourism.
