President Cyril Ramaphosa is slated to address the nation in a livestream on Monday, December 14. This comes just days after Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize broke the news that South Africa has now entered its second COVID-19 wave.

According to statistics released by the national Department of Health, the Western Cape currently has 152 212 positive cases as of Saturday, December 12. This means that the province contributes 17.8% of the country’s overall cases of COVID-19.

During the President’s last address, which took place on Thursday, December 3, he announced that the Nelson Mandela Bay region is one of the country’s biggest hotspots. He also announced the reinstatement of a 10pm curfew for the region, and that drinking alcohol on beaches and in parks has been forbidden.
