This morning, three trucks with the words ‘Zuma must go’ have brought traffic on the N2 into the CBD to a halt. Only one lane is currently open and curious motorists have been stopping to take images of the trucks.

This silent protest by the truck drivers is seen to be a part of the national call for President Jacob Zuma to step down from office after dismissing several ministers last week, including Finance minister Pravin Gordhan.

There are also several cross bridges along the N2 with signs telling the President to step down while a few motorists have placed placards in the back of their vehicles supporting the shutdown of economic activity in the country to force Zuma’s resignation.

If you are in the CBD area today, please be aware of various protest action taking place, including:

• A human chain along the key main roads, the main road in Simonstown, along Voortrekker Road from Bellville, along the west coast road into Marine Drive from Atlantis and along Jakes Gerwel Drive into Mowbray Main Road from Mitchell’s Plain – all leading into the CBD
• A ‘concerned civil society’ march starting at 12 pm from Kaizergracht Street to the gates of Parliament.

If you are participating in any of the protest action, be safe and share your pictures and messages with us on Facebook and Twitter.
