Disgruntled residents of the informal settlement Dunoon, north of Cape Town, have blocked off roads and set tyres alight. Traffic is backed on Potsdam Road and both directions of the N7. Tyres lay burning on the street and rubble is strewn all over. Drivers are being cautioned not to take these routes, as residents are stoning vehicles too.
An eye witness said that illegal land invasion is the cause of the destruction. Areas along these routes have been cordoned off with ropes and poles.
A truck has also jackknifed amid the chaos and motorists have described the area as a no-go-zone.
