Heavy rainfall over parts of the Little Karoo and Garden Route District led to localised flooding on Saturday afternoon.
The rain was so heavy that the Meiringspoort pass had to be closed to prevent any accidents. The pass is located between Oudtshoorn and Beaufort West. Previously, it experienced such a drought that its residents were limited to only 10 litres of water per day.
The pass was closed as a result of torrential rains causing streams of water to flow down it, and motorists have been advised to make use of alternative routes.
Oudtshoorn Municipality has also assembled a joint operational team to minimise the aftermath of the heavy rains.
