President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to be in the hot seat at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry on Wednesday, where he will answer questions about his oversight role and alleged participation in state capture during his predecessor’s tenure.
According to IOL, Ramaphosa will be wearing his cap as president of the ANC during his two-day appearance at the commission.
He is expected to be accompanied by members of his party’s national executive committee.
A Daily Maverick report said that Ramaphosa’s testimony is likely to be the most important in terms of answering questions of political culpability during the era of State Capture.
“It is unlikely that former president Jacob Zuma, who was head of state through the era, will appear before the state capture inquiry. So the big question will fall to Ramaphosa,” the report said.
Ramaphosa has set aside four full days to give testimony.
With his second appearance in May, he will have to answer questions in his capacity as president of the country.
Among the allegations against him is that he acted in favour of Glencore to disadvantage Eskom, EWN reported on Wednesday.
This claim was made by former Eskom CEOs Matshela Koko and Brian Molefe.
Ramaphosa is expected to take the stand at 10:00.
