Online learning has been made easier at several schools in the Western Cape as an Internet service provider (ISP) RocketNet sponsored them with free high-speed internet to support their digital learning and education. Due to the heavy impact, the COVID-19 pandemic had on the education system many schools in the province have migrated to online learning. As reported by IOL, the sponsored schools include Laerskool Edleen, Vredelust Primary School, Star College Cape Town, Plumstead High School, Radley College and the Centre for Autism Research & Education.
The internet company also partnered with fibre network operators to sponsor each school. It is alleged that each school will receive sponsorship of fibre internet with speeds of 1000Mbps every month, free of charge. Meanwhile, RocketNet CEO, Simon Swanepoel, said it is so important in this day and age for scholars to have internet access yet many of the learners are experiencing obstacles in their educational journeys due to no internet connection, Ventureburn reports.
ITWEB reported, Vredelust Primary School principal Ronald Agulhas indicated that RocketNet provided the school with fast Internet connectivity, to enable them to take interactive learning to the next level. “This helps us adequately prepare our learners with up to date content and academic extension programmes so that they can keep up with the ever-changing world that they find themselves a part of, “Agulhas said.
