South Africa is one of the nations in the world with the highest number of annual public holidays, and this year, 2020, we will celebrate 13 days off.

According to the Public Holidays Act, Monday, August 10 will become an additional public holiday. The extra holiday in South Africa will be made in order to celebrate National Women’s Day on August 9, 2020, and each year.

Workers will be able to take advantage of long weekends in 2020 as well, as Freedom Day -which is April 27 – falls on a Monday, while Worker’s Day – on May 1 – falls on a Friday.

According to South Africa’s governmental calendar, 2020’s public holidays are as follows:

January 1 – New Year’s Day

March 21 – Human Rights Day

April 10 – Good Friday

April 13 – Family Day

April 27 – Freedom Day

May 1 – Worker’s Day

June 16 – Youth Day

August 9 – National Women’s Day

August 10 – Public Holiday

September 24 – Heritage Day

December 16 – Day of Reconciliation

December 25 – Christmas

December 26 – Day of Goodwill

The dates for Good Friday and Easter Sunday vary each year, as they are determined according to the ecclesiastical moon, but usually fall between late March and late April.
