It may have been difficult for Protea supporters to watch, but there is no doubt that we witnessed pure magic at Newlands yesterday.
Day two of the second Test against England saw English all-rounder Ben Stokes annihilate the South African bowlers, with his impressive double century. Stokes racked up 258 runs off 198 balls, and his 399-run sixth wicket partnership with Jonny Bairstow left the Proteas 488 runs behind going into day three at 141 for 2.
The Proteas did put up a fight, they fortunately only lost one wicket in the final session and captain Hashim Amla found some momentum, with his innings of 64. This was the fist time Amla passed 50 in a year, lets hope this form continues into the third day of the test.
But back to the astounding 399 run partnership of Stokes and Bairstow. As I sat cringing with every run they made, I couldn’t help but be impressed, and I was not alone. Regardless of the huge blow to SA, it was still a cracking day of cricket. Here are some awesome tweets from the day:
