The South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) announced on Friday that they have removed former Morning Expresso and OUTsurance personality Katlego Maboe from the Best TV Presenter category.

Katlego was announced as a nominee for Best Presenter at the 2021 Saftas on April 29. This is a category that sees the public vote for the winner.

The former Morning Expresso presenter has managed to stay out of the public eye following a cheating scandal that went viral in late 2020. It is believed that this is the reason the Saftas have removed his nomination and code from the category.

“After careful deliberation of concerns raised regarding the nomination of Mr Katlego Maboe in the Best TV Presenter Public Vote Category, announced on Thursday, 29 April 2021, the Safta’s jury has decided to rescind his nomination.”

According to News24, the rescission is “effective immediately,” with his voting code (5) being removed from the USSD line.

The 15th Saftas ceremony will be broadcast on Saturday, May 22 at 18:30 on SABC 3.

Well, we know who won’t be winning…
