Intense clashes between police and protesters have continued on Sunday, July 26 in Kraaifontein, after several homes were demolished in the area this week.
Videos of the stand-offs have been circulating on social media, with police in riot gear attempting to disperse the crowd.
According to EWN, tyres have been placed in the road and for a while the R300 was blocked but has since been opened again. These blockages were mostly in roads leading into the area. Tyres had also been placed and burnt in the Tygerberg Raceway.
“Protest action involving the stoning, as well as the burning of vehicles and tyres have occurred at a number of locations. Stoning incidents occurred at the Stellenbosch Arterial, and between Wesbank and Delft,” City of Cape Town Law Enforcement’s Wayne Dyason told EWN.
Protests in the area have been ongoing for several days as the City accuses residents of building properties on land they don’t own.

Police have now taken over the situation. Metro police and law enforcement officers at some point were instructed to withdraw. All these law enforcement agencies are now working together to restore law and order in Kraaifontein as land occupation protests continue. @Newzroom405 pic.twitter.com/KgUNGKnzHd
