The Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) member involved in the case against the alleged underworld figure, Nafiz Modack, has been suspended from the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Alleged messages circulated between Modack and a woman, who stands accused of being involved in a plot against the late AGU detective, Charl Kinnear. Sergeant Ashley Tabisher was arrested on May 4 as a result of these alleged messages, which revealed his alleged connection to Modack.
The woman acted as an alleged middleman for Modack to request alleged information from Tabisher when the AGU was going to raid his homes. According to a voice message played during her bail application, Tabisher is alleged to have been offered, and agreed to be paid, R10 000 to do this.
Tabisher was hoping to be granted bail after being detained, but his application has been delayed several times already, News 24 reports.
Meanwhile, Western Cape police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut confirmed that the Sergeant is still in custody, and has been suspended in terms of SAPS’ departmental regulations.
Tabisher’s lawyer, Bruce Hendricks, also indicated that he intends to plead not guilty. The trial was postponed to Monday, June 14, because of a COVID-19 case that was detected in the building, Times Live reports.
