On Tuesday, South Africa recorded a total of 457 Covid-19 related deaths and data from the National Department of Health has shown that this now brings the death rate to 62 628.
The total number of Covid-19 cases identified in the country stands at 2 090 909 since Tuesday. A total of 59 271 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours while 15 501 new cases were reported.
The recovery rate now stands at 88.2% and a total of 3 631 102 vaccines have been administered.
The data also showed a total of 182 243 active cases of people battling Covid-19 as Gauteng continued to stand at the forefront in terms of active cases with 89 553, followed by the Western Cape with 22 710.
Meanwhile, the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) mass Vaccination Centre of Hope is set to open on Wednesday, July 7, and aims to administer 750 000 vaccinations in Cape Town between July and December this year.
According to CEO of Discovery Health, Dr Ryan Noach “This site will contribute significantly to the national target to provide access to COVID-19 vaccination for 41.7 million adults in South Africa, to reach population immunity and prevent further waves of infection.”
Dis-Chem also ramped up their Covid-19 services as pharmacy and beauty retailer CEO, Ivan Saltzman stated: “Dis-Chem welcomed a high proportion of uninsured patients across all our sites on Monday 5 July, which demonstrates the demand for vaccination by all South Africans and is an early validation of the latest policy change.”
