A local family is appealing for members of the public to come forward with any information about their missing daughter, Mumtaaz Abrahams.
The 14-year-old’s siblings and her aunt, Kashiefa Fakir, last saw her on Sunday afternoon leaving the family’s home in Olive Street, Eastridge to go to a shop nearby.
Fakir told IOL that Abrahams left their house just after lunch.
“We were all in the house at about 2pm when Mumtaaz informed me she wanted to buy something at the shop. The store is just a few houses away from us so when she was taking a long time I asked her younger brother to check why she was taking so long.”
After going out to look for his sister, Abrahams’ brother returned and said he had not found her.
“I was surprised when he returned without her, saying she was not there. I thought maybe she had met a friend,” said Fakir.
At the time of her disappearance, Abrahams was wearing a black long-sleeve top, blue denim pants and black slippers.
South African Police Services Western Cape spokesperson Siyabulela Malo has released an official description of the missing teenager: “Mumtaaz is approximately 1.5m tall, she weighs about 45kg, light skin in complexion with dark brown eyes and brown hair shoulder length.”
Both Fakir and her mother, Falidiela, are Abrahams’ legal guardians.
Malo is urging anyone with information regarding the location of the teenage girl to come forward.
“Police urge anyone who knows the whereabouts of Mumtaaz to contact the investigating officer Constable Mboxela of Mitchells Plain Police on 073 1141 921or 021 370 1638.”
