Police have confirmed that a missing persons docket has been opened after a 74-year-old man, Japhtha Julius, disappeared without a trace on Sunday, April 25 in Strandfontein. 

According to Daily Voice,  Japhtha’s ex-wife Veronica Julius, 67, said he never returned home after he went to the shops.

“He left home to go to the shops and I didn’t think anything of it because he often walks to the shop and is very fit.

“When he did not come home I became worried and reported him missing at the police station. He does not have any illnesses and has never gone missing before.

Missing for more than a month 

“We have gone to hospitals and mortuaries and found nothing,” Veronica said.

Worried residents also said they had searched the entire area but were unable to find him. Japhtha was wearing a white peak cap, black jacket and black or blue jeans at the time of his disappearance.

Cases of missing people are not rare in Strandfontein.In 2018 a passerby discovered the body of a man, who had been missing for more than a month, on a field in the area.

EWN reported at the time that the remains were found wrapped in a blue blanket with a single gunshot wound to the head.
