Yet another train carriage went up in flames at the Cape Town Train Station this afternoon. The train of the carriage was the second in just 24 hours to be ablaze.
“It was a technical fault,” a spokesperson from the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) said, citing a faulty electrical motor as the cause of the blaze.
The fire has been extinguished, and no injuries have yet been reported.
As a result, Metrorail has suspended services between Cape Town and Kapteinsklip.
Last night, a train pulled into the Cape Town Train Station at 7.40pm with two of its carriages already alight.
According to City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, the blazing train pulled into Platform 6.
