Zimbabwean singer, songwriter and producer Ray Ceeh was shot in the neck and killed in Lentegeur, Cape Town on Wednesday night. He was 33 years old.
According to IOL, Ceeh, who’s real surname is Chifamba, was dropping off some colleagues in Maartbloom Street when the incident took place.
Speaking to IOL, police spokesperson Siyabulela Malo said, “It is apparent that the victim was about to drop passengers in the area when three unknown men approached his vehicle and fired one shot to his neck and he totally lost the control of his vehicle. Lentegeur SAPS members responded to a complaint and upon their arrival noticed a white vehicle that had driven into the wall at the mentioned address.”
Malo said a murder case has been opened.
Ceeh worked as a cameraman for Muslim TV station Deen Channel. CEO of the channel, Faizal Sayed, said in an official statement that Ceeh was the life of the office and always brought smiles to everyone’s faces.
“He was determined and a hard worker. He always wanted to be someone in life, and his life was unfortunately cut short. He came to SA from Zimbabwe as a very talented person. He always wanted to help his mother. He produced music, he sang very well,” said Sayed.
He added, “I haven’t been able to work all morning, we are all shattered by the news. There is no justification. He saw SA as an outlet for him to be somebody and make a future here. It’s a disgrace that his life was taken here.”
Ceeh was working on a music video at the time of his death which Sayed said had the potential to be his big break. In January, Ceeh recorded and released a single titled Keep On Fighting.
