It’s been said before that we’ll give up a lot for the things we love, and the love of sneakers has proven to be no exception. Exclusive drops are notorious for eager fanatics going to dramatic means to secure their desires.

From concert tickets to limited editions in fashion, it’s an understanding as old as capitalism that people will wait, camp, or pretty much move addresses to secure their place in line. I’ve been guilty of the same dedication toward sneakers in the past.

The drop of theĀ Air Jordan 1 Hyper Royals and the Jordan 4 University Blues, of which only 12 pairs of each were available, saw no exception to the dedication of many, many South Africans. The catch? Well, for those who didn’t cop the shoes, they almost certainly copped something else. Covid19 what’s good?

On April 21, sneaker hunters from all over, journeyed to two prominent Shelflife Stores, Rosebank in Johannesburg, and Longmarket Street in Cape Town, and it might as well have been a Travis Scott concert. Uncle Cyril is definitely not going to be happy about this one.

And of course, people had no chill in commenting on the situation given Covid.

At first it’s funny but then you’re like.. accurate
And it truly did
Taking the L, or loss on shoes but picking up C19.. was it worth it ?
Apparently.. Uncle Cyril sees all

But Shelflife might have got a bit worried about the Cyril brigade showing up at their next launch, and not to buy sneakers. Their live raffle for the Jordan 1 Zoom and Air Jordan 5 is now going online.
