It would appear that we (thankfully) haven’t yet shaken winter off. Although yesterday’s cold front brought with it minor rainfall, temperatures dropped overnight and the Western Cape has seen some snowfall. A few days of polar opposites indeed, with Cape Town seeing the #12ApostlesFire and snowfall all in the same week.

As predictions had it, snow fell as close to Cape Town as the higher mountain regions around the Western Cape from Citrusdal to the Langeberg and the Outeniqua. A second flurry is forecast for Monday evening. It’s somewhat unusual to see October snow in the Cape, but certainly not rare considering climate change.

The run-off of melted snow plays an important part in the replenishment of dams in the Western Cape.
