UPDATE

It’s been a strange autumn in the Cape so far.

Significantly lower than average rainfall has impacted our precious water supply, temperatures peaked over 30 degrees a fortnight ago in late April and then finally, last night the mercury dropped to the lowest recording this year – a chilly temperature of 10 degrees, with a further prediction of it to descend to a minimum of 8 degrees tonight in central Cape Town and surrounds.

Meteorologists are telling us that weather patterns have changed quite dramatically over the past 24 hours, another reminder that long-term forecasts are notoriously difficult to predict. What we’re seeing is a cold front building momentum from off the Atlantic, bringing along with it icy conditions – snowfall is expected to occur on Thursday afternoon on higher ground in the Western Cape.

Although the weather patterns are still predicted to further change, signs are in place that we could be set to welcome in the first snow of the year come Thursday.
