Residents of Helderberg were warned to stay indoors and avoid the Somerset Mall, as gunmen allegedly robbed a diamond store on Tuesday, August 11.
It is believed that five gunmen robbed the Africa Diamond store at 10am. It is believed that employees of the store were held at gunpoint before the robbers made off with the jewellery.
A 30-year-old suspect was arrested by mall security, and four ther accomplices fled in a white Audi. This led to a chase by police down the N2 highway, and a subsequent shootout.
One of the robbers was shot by police and another was wounded.
Robbers caught on the N2. A jewellery store was robbed in Somerset Mall and quick action from the police resulted on their arrest. Expect delays if you’re coming from town heading to the Somerset direction. Only one lane opened in Baden Powell pic.twitter.com/vLtNJaU5VP
