To date, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa is 264 184. This places the country among the top 10 for global COVID-19 infections. 

The total number of deaths is 3 971. There are currently 132 498 active cases, as 127 715 people have recovered. This translates to a recovery rate of 48.2%.

According to stats from Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, Gauteng has the highest number of confirmed cases (93 044) , which equals 35.2% of the total cases in the country. The Western Cape is close behind with 77 336 confirmed cases or 29.3% of the total, and the Eastern Cape has the third most confirmed cases with 48 232 (18.3%).

Globally, there have been over 12.5-million confirmed cases of coronavirus, of which a reported 6.89-million have recovered and more than 560 000 have died.
