In response to the ongoing spate of violent attacks targeting women and children, CapeTalk together with KFM, EWN and 702 in JHB have put the Spotlight on Rape and are creating a space for open conversations about sexual violence, abuse and the path to recovery for survivors.
The #SpotlightOnRape campaign aims to raise awareness about rape and abuse in our society.
As part of putting the #SpotlightOnRape the KFM team went out to do a silent activation in the traffic at Wetton Circle and also Marine Drive last week to continue the conversation about rape and abuse. Because of the amazing response they held another activation last Friday afternoon at various locations to promote the campaign further.
South African celebrities have also joined in the conversation and showed their support. The incredibly talented Mathew Gold joined the KFM Breakfast team in studio to show his support and he even wrote a song especially for the campaign.
Matthew explained that because he expresses himself through music he was inspired to write a song to show his support for the safety of women and children and how important this topic is.
Within 4 hours he recorded an acoustic track in support of the #SpotlightOnRape campaign.

We hope that this campaign has raised the much needed awareness towards rape and abuse of women and children and we as a community will continue to stand up and have our voices heard. This is a societal issue that can be reduced if we continuously speak out, share our knowledge and make South Africans aware that abuse is not the answer. I truly hope this campaign continues to grow and gains a powerful traction amongst various groups within the Western Cape. We can combat rape and abuse, we just need everyone on board to change the culture.
