Residents will once again be dining by candlelight as Eskom has announced that Stage 4 rotational load shedding will be in place from 9am until 11pm on Monday as well as on Tuesday (times have not yet been specified for this day).

The national public utility says the power cuts are being implemented “due to a shortage of capacity”.

Eskom reassures members of the public that Stage 4 load shedding is no cause for alarm as the system is being effectively controlled.

Load shedding is a highly-controlled process, implemented to protect the system and to prevent a total collapse of the system or a national blackout.”

Reports state that during Stage 4 load shedding approximately 80% of the country’s demand is still being met and 4000MW will be rotationally shed across the country.

Maintenance teams are working around the clock to return generation units to the electricity system.

Residents are encouraged to treat all electrical points as live during load shedding.

We appeal to customers to switch off geysers during the day as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand.”

Locals can check the schedule for their area here or by contacting 0860 037 566.

Regular updates on the status of the power system will be available on Eskom’s media platforms.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience during this difficult period.”
