Eskom announced that it has implemented Stage 4 load shedding from 2pm this afternoon, Tuesday 10, despite stipulating that Stage 2 load shedding could be expected throughout the day.
Stage 4 load shedding has been put in place as Unit 1 at the Koeberg nuclear power station has tripped. “The unit has been disconnected from the grid due to a fault on the turbine side, however, the nuclear reactor remains safe,” the embattled power utility said in a statement. “The teams are investigating the root causes of the fault, and will advise of the remedy as soon as it is established.”
Eskom has also advised South Africans to be aware that load shedding stages may change at a moment’s notice.
