A suspect was arrested on Friday night in connection with the brutal murder of John Curran, an Irishman who died after being stabbed several times in his apartment in the Cape Town CBD on November 7 2018.
The arrest came after images of a suspect were circulated by South African Police Services (SAPS).
The images came from CCTV footage that showed the alleged killer fleeing the building of Curran’s flat.
SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana told TimesLIVE the male, believed to be 24-years-old, was apprehended on Voortrekker road on the Friday and is expected to appear at the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Monday.
John Curran (60) was known for his work in various non-profit organisations and was the former Director of Education for Mellon Educate in Cape Town.
It is reported that a woman found him in a pool of blood in his home.
Police revealed that Curran’s cellphone was missing when they arrived at the scene.
Media reports in Ireland share that Curran was on vacation in Cape Town after completing a two-year working contract.
Rwexana told EWN that intensive investigations led to the arrest.
“Thorough investigations by the police led to the arrest of a suspect for the murder of the 60-year-old man whose body was found in his room on 7 November,” she said.
